About this work:
The processes of printmaking has had a big influence in my other work in painting, installation and even photography. Everything from the layering or removal of layers to cutting out shapes to make large lino block prints and the development of imagery has had a positive influence on the way I work in other media. At times printmaking can be painfully slow and disappointing if things don't come out quite the way you had imagined. At other times the mistakes can lead you into totally new realms. I discovered this one day when I left some plates in the deep bite acid bath too long and came back to find all the edges gone. Worked out perfectly for me and led me to making the lino block prints where I would cut the shape out and lay it on the press and ended up with all this gorgeous white space around it. Compare East Coulee I with East Coulee III and you will know what I mean.
